Study Habits
In the muddle of trying to figure out how life should unfold for myself (interesting to see how I still get sucked into believing that I am the one who should be unfolding my life) I began to think about that old stand by.
Going Back To School.
Inevitably when I go through periods of feeling lost about purpose or career path, I think about going back to school. I loved school. Clean, neat, in order. I was good at school. Learning is fun, empowering, inspirational. Thing is, I haven't been clear since graduating from Sheridan exactly what I would study, if not theatre. This does not mean that I don't crave to study about a million different things. But it always feels like you waste your time and money if you study something that is merely interesting to you and not something that will be able to produce some income upon completion. Another obstacle, aside from my resistance to going back into massive debt, is the fact that I am a commitment-phobe. A gypsy. I never seem to stay in one place long enough to complete a course, program, degree, certificate. All of these gashes in the highway of my best intentions keep me paralyzed and I end up studying nothing.
That's not true. I did complete my real estate course. And I have taken all my 100 and 200 level SOM classes.
But oh the things I would study if I could make the logistics work! For instance, this fall I might be tempted to take a new media course - finally - at SIAST and get back to my new found love of communications design. Of course, if I end up leaving Saskatchewan in the middle of it or get hired to be the AIR in Mortlach before the course if finished, will I have wasted time and money? Hmmmmm. Some other things I would love to study:
1. Massage Therapy
2. Photography
3. Film Acting
4. Marketing for Small Businesses
5. Guitar
6. Adult Learning/Education
7. Transpersonal Psychology
8. Interior Design
9. Film Making
10. Direction (Theatre)
11. Science of Mind Advanced Studies
12. Reflexology
13. Midwifery
14. Ring Making Workshop
15. Religious Studies
When I factor in all the little things that I would like to study for short periods of time - like the ring making workshop that I mentioned - my list could go on. I'd love to spin some pottery, take a song writing workshop, learn to sail and learn to sew. Lord knows I should drop a cooking class in there somewhere, but I am not quite that reformed. (On that note, my next post will be a foody post with content written by none other than Sarah...or to my loyal and long time readers The One He Wanted To Replace Me With). There is an endless amount of things to know, horizons to conquer and skills to acquire.
With this said, I would love to know what secret learning passions lurk in the hearts of those who read this blog. Click here to go to my Konkin Question page and let me know what you would study if you, too, didn't allow the logistics of life to get in the way.
